I went out to our warehouse so I could take a couple measurements on the etrailer.com Landing Gear Set # RVLG-8000 referenced in your question. From the center of the cross shaft to the bottom of the top weld stop I measured a distance of right at 7 inches. From the center of the crank handle shaft to this same location there is a distance of 9-1/2 inches. The outer leg tubes are indeed 2-1/2 inches x 2-1/2 inches.

This is a great question! Although we do list the ball hole diameter in the specs for each ball mount, there is an easier way to make sure a ball mount has the hole size you need. Any ball mount rated for Class IV hitches will have a 1-1/4" ball hole. As you have discovered, ball mounts rated for Class III hitches can have either a 1" or a 1-1/4" ball hole.
